Bordeaux is synonymous with wine, and wine is intertwined with the history of the region. The wine routes and vineyards spread in all directions around Bordeaux and are divided into 6 sub-regions: Medoc, Graves, Entre-deux-Mers, Sauternes, Libourne, and Blaye-Bourg. The wine-making regions grow many different grape varietals, the best known ones being Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet France, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenère for the red wines, and Sémillion, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle for the white wines.
