The Languedoc-Roussillon stretches from the Spanish border to Nîmes in the east, and has the greatest surface area of organic vineyards in France. The terroir is ideally suited to a variety of different grapes varietals. For the reds, the wines are most often blended from Carignan, Cinsault, Malbec or Syrah, and white wines are made from Chradonnay, Marsanne, Roussanne and Chenin Blanc among others. The past few years have seen a remarkable transformation, with the arrival of a new generation of winemakers who have worked hard to improve the quality of the wine, and to cultivate the vines in a more environmentally friendly manner.
