The Winery

A true haven of peace, Domaine la Cabotte is the idyllic seting for nature lovers. Lost in the middle of wooded hills and under the watchful eye of Mont Ventoux, the winery is located in the heart of the Massif d’Uchaux region.

The vineyard is planted with a nice mix of vines. Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache noir for the Côtes du Rhône red wines and Grenache blanc, Clairette blanche and Viognier for the whites.

The winery has 30 hectares of vines, all of which have been organically certified since 2002, and have also been biodynamically certified since 2006. In an area of such breathtaking beauty, there is no other way to cultivate the vines!

The wines produced by Domaine la Cabotte have long attracted the attention of wine journalists and the main wine guides, and since the promotion of the Massif d'Uchaux appellation to the ranks of Côtes du Rhône Village wine in 2005, they are becoming discovered more and more by wine enthusiasts. The winery has just won silver medal at the Millésime Bio 2016 organic wine fair for its "Garance" 2014, the wine selected by Gourmet Odyssey. The wine was also included in the 2016 Guide des Bonnes Affaires du Vin guide from the Revue du Vin de France and in the 2016 Bettane & Desseauve guide. The first rates it 14.5/20 for the 2014 vintage, and the second hails "an excellent 2013. Ripe and generous. Here's a full, and very spicy Massif d'Uchaux." And its Chateauneuf-du-Pape was selected by the 2016 vintage special edition of La Revue du Vin de France as one of the best wines of the 2016 vintage.

As well as their range of Côtes du Rhône wines, the winery also makes a great Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine.

The Rhône Valley offers one of the most diverse ranges of France’s wine growing regions. As you head south of Lyon, following the valley of the great river, the sun gets stronger and the climate decidedly more Mediterranean.

Our vines are to be found in the Côtes du Rhône Villages Massif d'Ucahaux appellation.  The Massif d'Uchaux is one of only 18 areas that are allowed to use the name of the location with the Côtes du Rhône Villages label, a sign of a superior quality wine.

The stony and sandy soil of the area helps make fresh and concentrated wines.  The pebbles, as in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, absorb the heat during the day and release it during the night to help the grapes slowly mature.

The strength of the Massif d'Uchaux wines is due to its very disctint terroir at mid altitude, conditions ideally adapted to making great wines which are highly sought after by wine lovers.

Vineyard Visit. Meet the winemakers, Marie-Pierre et Eric Plumet at Domaine la Cabotte, Mondragon

The Winemakers Welcome You...

Marie-Pierre d’Ardhuy Plumet, her husband Eric and their son Etienne are talented and devoted winemakers that continue in the line of 3 generations of family tradition.

Domaine la Cabotte was bought by the d’Ardhuy family in 1980. Partially abandoned, Marie-Pierre and Eric patiently revitalised the vineyard by repairing the old terraces and rehabilitating the vines to their former health.

Originally from Burgundy, Marie-Pierre’s family are also owners of Domaine d’Ardhuy in the Côte d’Or village of Corgoloin.

Garance Côtes du Rhône Villages

The wine chosen for the Gourmet Odyssey Wine Experience at Domaine la Cabotte is the Massif d’Uchaux Côtes du Rhône Village red wine, “Garance”.

A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, this wine perfectly balances fruit and spice. The colour is a deep ruby red. The nose is subtly complex with hints of red fruit. On the palate, it is strong with blackcurrant, blackberry and spicy flavours coming through. The silky soft tannins help make this a wine for keeping.
The wine is made and aged in stainless steel tanks to accentuate the taste of the fruit and of the terroir.
